Tutorial
The module Entrepreneurship for Sustainability Transitions explores the significance, challenges, opportunities, and operational models of entrepreneurship for achieving sustainability transitions. The course is structured into two main components: a theoretical foundation and a practical application.
In the theoretical component, the module introduces the concept of sustainable entrepreneurship and explores key academic frameworks that link entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainable development. It delves into the origins, drivers, and ecosystems of sustainable entrepreneurship, examining how sustainability challenges can be transformed into entrepreneurial opportunities and how entrepreneurial ventures can catalyze sustainability transitions. The course encourages active student participation, fostering critical reflection and in-depth discussions.
The practical component involves group work, where students collaborate to develop a business idea for their own sustainable start-up. This segment teaches students how to generate viable ideas for sustainable entrepreneurship, convert these ideas into actionable business models, and present them effectively to stakeholders. The practical work is supported by workshops providing background information and practical insights for their group work. Students will be supported in solving socio-ecological challenges through creative thinking and the application of design thinking methods.
Upon completion, students will be equipped to critically engage with the theories of social, environmental, and sustainable entrepreneurship, apply research skills to evaluate real-world examples of sustainable ventures, and understand the key processes involved in designing a social or environmental entrepreneurial initiative.
